Volunteer Opportunities

Position:  YMCA Ambassador
Description:  Share your passion for helping others to achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle. 

Details: Assist members and patients who have physical limitations in utilizing the facilities and services of the YMCA.  Serve as the face of the YMCA welcoming members and guests as they enter the facility, directing people, and answering basic questions. 

 

Requirements: Friendly, positive disposition. A passion for helping others, especially seniors or the physically challenged. Ability to uphold and model the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

 

Time Commitment: Serve in two to three hour shifts 1 to 3 times a week. The greatest need is Monday, Wednesday, Friday between 8:00 am and noon, but assistance is needed throughout the day and week.

Position:  YMCA Board of Managers
Description: Bring your leadership skills to the YMCA by serving on our Board of Managers.

 

Details: Support the YMCA with your communication skills, connections and community involvement. Develop new leadership skills and enhance your network. 

 

Requirements: A positive, wellness-minded disposition. A passion for helping others to lead healthy lives physically, mentally and spiritually. Ability to uphold and model the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Willingness to use your community influence to support the YMCA through fund raising and exploring partnerships or program expansion.

 

Time Commitment: Monthly Board or Committee meetings, as well as special events related to the Branch or the annual support campaign

Position:  YMCA Class Instructor
Description: Volunteer your talents to the YMCA as a class instructor.

 

Details: Instructors are needed in a variety of areas, mostly adult wellness but others as well. Classes include: cycling, step, yoga, Pilates, aerobics, strength training, youth wellness, adaptive wellness, and preschool recreation.  

 

Requirements: A positive, wellness-minded disposition. A passion for helping others to lead healthy lives physically, mentally and spiritually. Ability to uphold and model the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Teaching skills and nationally recognized fitness certifications or equivalent. 

 

Time Commitment: A commitment of leading one class per week is required or regular subbing.

Position:  YMCA Exercise Assistant
Description: Share your love of people and helping others to achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle!

 

Details:  You will be paired with a member who needs some level of assistance in order to utilize the facilities, equipment, and services of the YMCA. 

 

Requirements: A positive, wellness-minded disposition. A passion for helping others, especially seniors or the physically challenged. Ability to uphold and model the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. 

 

Time Commitment: This will vary depending upon the member’s needs and exercise program; however, you could expect to provide assistance a minimum of once or twice a week.

Position:  Facility Caretaker
Description:  Too Clean ~ Impossible!  Help to make the YMCA Healthy Living Center a clean and safe environment for all who visit. 

Details:  Help keep the floors clean and dry during the winter months.  Maintain a healthy environment by cleaning and disinfecting equipment and surfaces.  Enjoy working with and around health minded individuals.

Requirements:  A positive, wellness-minded disposition.  Ability to uphold and model the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.  Physical capabilities for light cleaning duties include bending and squatting. 

Time Commitment:  A minimum of one shift a week for 2 hours.

Position:  Special YMCA Projects
Description:  Share your love of people and helping others to achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle!

Details:  Check below for a list of special projects that come up throughout the year which make it possible for the YMCA Healthy Living Center to continue reaching out to those who need help improving their health and wellness.

  1. Coordinate volunteer transportation for therapy clients and members with physical limitations
  2. Develop memoriams and cards for members who loose their battle
  3. Website development for special fundraising needs (pool lift for 350+ lbs, scale for 350+ libs, automatic door openers, handrails, NuStep, arm bike, etc.)

Requirements:  Friendly, positive disposition, passion for helping others, especially seniors or the physically challenged.  Ability to uphold and model the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

Time commitment:  As needed.
