LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is a collaborative with the YMCA of the USA and the Lance Armstrong Foundation to better understand the needs, wants and interests of cancer survivors. It is the goal of the YMCA Healthy Living Center to support cancer survivor’s pursuit of health and well-being by creating and implementing programs that fit the needs of our cancer survivors.

Today’s evidence supports physical activity as a critical part of living with cancer. Cancer survivors: those who are living with, through and beyond cancer diagnosis; are becoming aware of the positive impacts that physical activity, a healthful diet and stress reduction techniques can have on their quality of life.

The Healthy Living Center’s LIVESTRONG at the YMCA exercise/fitness programs for cancer survivors require a doctor’s referral. Referrals should be faxed to 515-244-5570. Participants will be evaluated by medical or fitness professionals and a program will be designed to meet each participant's specific needs.  Individual sessions with Medical Program Instructors will be scheduled by appointment.  Individuals have the choice to do their workouts on their own at anytime or during class time when other LIVESTRONG participants are working out.

  • Medical Program Instructors are available Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon.
  • Specifically dedicated time for LIVEStrong will be held on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm and Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 to 7:00 pm
  • Individual one-on-one sessions will be held by appointment

For more information contact the medical programs office at 515-645-3350.
